Tour to the Rhine 2024

Day 6

Our final day in the beautiful Rhine valley started with a walk down to the lake in the Laacher See volcano Park. This is a spectacular conservation area and the setting for the Maria Laach Abbey.

We were due to take part in the 11:00 mass at the Abbey so we left the lake and made our way to the abbey. This was another spectacular church with amazing acoustics. The choir performed at key moments of the service and choir blended well with the organ, producing a wonderful sound. After the service, we had lunch in the grounds and then returned to Boppard.

We had the afternoon to relax, first taking the Sesselbahn (chair lift) to the top of the hill by the hotel. This was quite an adventure and a first for many of us but the views at the top were well worth the ride.

Many of the singers then took the opportunity for a swim in the local outdoor swimming pool, a great way to relax at the end of the week.

Tomorrow it will be an early morning alarm to give everyone time to clear their rooms, make sure everything is packed and get on the road to catch the ferry home.
